With its arrival on retail shelves, Samsung’s new flagship Galaxy S26 series has hit the headlines due to an unexpected software glitch. During last month’s launch, it was announced that the devices would feature the Perplexity AI assistant alongside Bixby and Gemini. However, users who purchased the phone are now reporting that this integration is not functioning correctly.
Perplexity AI Confusion in the Galaxy S26 Series
According to user reports, the “Hey Plex” voice wake command—which initially worked without issue—suddenly vanished following the latest February update, which introduced the “inactivity reboot” mode. While the Perplexity app can still be summoned via the side key, voice command support is currently non-functional. Furthermore, reports indicate that the app does not come pre-installed, and even after manual installation, it fails to appear in the new voice assistant settings screen.
The most notable development came from Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas. Responding to a user on X (formerly Twitter), Srinivas stated that efforts are underway to change the wake word from “Hey Plex” to “Hey Perplexity.” However, the CEO deleted his post just a few hours later, leaving behind more questions than answers.
Samsung Quietly Retracts
Following this confusion, Samsung made a silent move of its own. The company removed the original press release from its official newsroom, which had announced the “Hey Plex” feature for the Galaxy S26 family last month. While archived copies are still accessible, Samsung has yet to issue a formal correction or official statement regarding the matter.
Considering the naming similarities in the industry, transitioning to a new command seems logical; however, the timing and lack of communication have sparked significant confusion.
